Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Troops 2 Truckers?

Troops 2 Truckers™ (T2T) is an on-base training program that seeks to transfer motor transport, heavy equipment, and other military logistics training and experience into a civilian career. We recruit, train, and license marines, soldiers and sailors for immediate post-service employment in the transportation and logistics industry.
  • How does Troops 2 Truckers work?

Troops 2 Truckers is under contract with a number of top Transportation and Logistics companies who have demonstrated real support and understanding of the needs of transitioning servicemen and women. T2T's program eliminates post-service uncertainty - you will be trained, licensed, and employed prior to your EAS (should you choose to accept the job offer). The main difference between T2T and a truck driving school is our output - we deliver jobs...trucking schools deliver diplomas.
  • What does no "out of pocket" really mean?

No cost to you means full military tuition assistance of $4,500 per year. Our Commercial Driver's License program is operated in conjunction with our partner, Palomar College. Upon enrollment, our staff will provide you with Tuition Assistance forms to be completed, signed by your Command, and submitted to your Base Education Office for approval.

The Tuition Assistance provided to you by the Department of Defense is determined by your GT Score (Active Duty and Reservists). If you are a National Guardsman you will receive Tuition Assistance based on slightly different criteria, but again we will assist you through the entire process. Rest assured, we will never ask for funds from your pocket!
  • How does the applicaton process work?

After completing the on-line registration, candidates will receive an email confirming their registration.

Each candidate will then be contacted by a Transition Advisor who will work with them to find an available and convenient class, and assist the candidate with the required forms.

Upon course completion, and at the request of the candidate, a Placement Specialist will work directly with the candidate and transportation industry leaders.
  • What is Tuition Assistance?

Tuition Assistance is a Department of Defense benefit that you may draw on while an active duty serviceman. It is in place to help you with career and educational opportunities and it's a "use or lose" benefit. You do not pay into Tuition Assistance (as you do with your MGIB account). This money is paid directly into the program - you will never write us a check. The Department of Defense requires that you pass the course (whether it be this course or any other approved course) in order to utilize your Tuition Assistance dollars. In our case, that means you must pass the DMV test for a Commercial Driver's License. We ask for your commitment and dedication towards our program in order for you to successfully get your CDL. If your orders change and you can't complete the course, we'll work with you to reimburse your TA dollars. We're serious when we say NO COST.
  • What is my GT Score?

Your GT Score is a measurement of your Verbal Expression (VE) and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR) skills as assessed by the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Your test score measures your General Technical abilities and will help determine your access to Tuition Assistance dollars.
  • How can I qualify for Tuition Assistance with a GT Score below 100 points?

You can now qualify for Tuition Aisstance by taking the Test for Adult Basic Eduction (TABE) at the Camp Pendleton Joint Education Center, Bldg. 1331 every Wednesday at 1300. The test has a two-hour completion time and you will receive your test results the very same day. Once you have successfully passed the TABE, your present GT Score and TABE results will be added together to give you a new GT Score of 100 or higher. You can contact Jeff Caruth (TABE Proctor) at (760) 725-6660 for further information. For your convenience, the TABE can also be administered in the 53 Area, to set up an appointment please contact Maria at (760) 725-0606.
  • Who is eligible for the program?

Troops 2 Truckers is designed for Reservists, National Guardsmen, and Active Duty servicemen and women.
  • Where is your program offered?

Our programs are currently offered at Camp Pendelton, CA and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. We expect to be located on three to five additional military installations across the country by 2009.
  • What type of jobs/careers can I find?

A cornerstone to the program is the job diversity that we offer - from city driver (known as Pickup and Delivery), to line haul, to long haul/sleeper teams. And if you're thinking about supervisory or entry level management jobs, we're gearing up to bring on dispatchers, warehouse supervisors, even terminal managers.
  • Will I need to sign a contract?

Never - not with us, not with our employers - NEVER. Even if you chose another career, even if you give this a try and decide driving is not for you...we will never ask you to sign a contract, nor will our employers. This means no "charge backs - no one will ask you to reimburse the cost of training unless you choose not to complete the course due to a reason other than deployment.

Troops 2 Truckers delivers a no-strings-attached job offer...it's up to you to accept. We do seek your commitment to the program - to complete the course within the allocated schedule and should you accept a job offer, our sincere hope is that you'll invest the same commitment and discipline as you did during your active duty service. We know that driving truck is tough, but certainly no tougher than what you've been through. We also know that two years into this career, you'll have the scheduling flexibility and earning power that will make a lasting difference to you and your family.
  • Are disabled veterans able to enroll?

YES! There are some practical issues that must be addressed, however, our partners will never restrict your ability to work hard, contribute to the company, and earn a great living. Troops 2 Truckers is committed to ALL servicemen and women.
  • What about my experience and driving history?

Your personal safety is very important to us! We ask for your experience with equipment and your approximate mileage in order to understand how the T2T staff can best help you in the classroom and on the road. We strive to create the safest possible environment for you, your employer, and all other drivers on the road.
  • I already have my CDL, can you still find me a job?

The honest answer is MAYBE. We will have to screen your background and check your skill level. We enforce a rigid quality control method that is designed to reduce risk - to keep unsafe drivers off the road. Having a CDL does not mean that you are a safe driver. A poor driving record, a criminal background, or the inability to pass our driving standards test can eliminate you from consideration. In some cases, we will re-train you, and should you succeed in meeting our employment standards, the program may assist you with employment. This option is at the sole discretion of our employment partners. But, don't hesitate to ask...
  • When can I start?

REGISTER NOW. Our program is growing faster than we expected...and space could be limited. Make sure you complete all sections of the registration form. We'll contact you to discuss your experience and start date.
  • Do you offer jobs outside of the transportation industry?

Troops 2 Truckers is one of several programs offered by Troop Transition to ensure a smooth transition from military to civilian life for our nation's heroes. We invite you to visit our site for additional information on our Troops 2 Roughnecks and Direct 2 Management programs. Stay tuned... Troops 2 Mechanics will be arriving soon!
